The short version
MetarLab reads published aviation weather back to you and helps you study for the PPL theory. Most of it is free. A subscription adds room for more aerodromes, alerts, and space for charts of your own. It is not an official source and never replaces your briefing.
If you buy a subscription, the seller is Lemon Squeezy, not MetarLab — see below, because it changes who your invoice comes from and who to ask about money.
Who you are agreeing with
MetarLab is run by a private individual as a personal project. The name, tax number, address and contact that Spanish law requires are on the legal notice, and that is the place to write about anything on this page.
An account is yours alone. Do not share it; what happens under it is your responsibility.
What an account gives you
- Free
- One aerodrome followed, two charts of your own, and everything the app does with them: decoding METAR and TAF, the quiz, and the flashcards you write.
- Subscribed
- Aerodromes without a limit, alerts by Telegram and browser notification, and room for fifty charts of your own — up to 40 MB each and 1 GB in total.
- On every plan, free
- ENAIRE's aerodrome plates and VFR500 sheets. MetarLab has never charged for those and does not host them: your browser opens them from ENAIRE's own servers. Nothing about a subscription gates safety information.
If the app is not offering a subscription, nothing on this page about payment applies to you yet — there is nothing to buy and no contract to have. Settings → Plan always says which of the two it is.
Paying, and who you pay
Lemon Squeezy is the merchant of record. They are the seller: they take the payment, they collect and remit the VAT of the country you are in, and the invoice comes from them. MetarLab receives what is left after their fee.
That is not a technicality. It means no card details ever reach MetarLab — the payment happens on their page, not this one — and it means a question about a charge is a question for them, though writing to the address on the legal notice will get it sorted either way.
- The prices
- €19 a year, or €2.99 a month. VAT is included in what you are shown at the checkout; what that comes to depends on where you are.
- Renewal
- A subscription renews on its own until you cancel it. Cancelling is done from Lemon Squeezy's own portal, linked from Settings → Plan, and takes effect at the end of what you have already paid for.
- If a payment fails
- Nothing stops immediately. Lemon Squeezy retries a failed payment four times over about two weeks and the subscription keeps working throughout; only when the last attempt fails does the account go back to the free tier.
- Getting money back
- See refunds and the 14-day right to change your mind.
The charts you upload
A subscription buys room for your own PDFs: a plate you annotated, your school's material, something you scanned. Those files are stored so they are on every device you sign in on.
- They stay yours
- Uploading a file gives MetarLab no rights over it beyond storing it and handing it back to you. Nobody at MetarLab reads them.
- They are private, and there is no way to share them
- A file belongs to one account and is served only to that account, with the session checked on every request. There is no public link, no sharing between accounts, and no plan to add either. That is a decision rather than a missing feature.
- You are saying you may upload it
- By uploading a file you confirm you have the right to keep a copy of it. Please do not upload material you are not allowed to hold — commercial chart products and a school's paid course notes are the two worth naming.
- The limits
- Two files free, fifty subscribed, 40 MB each and 1 GB in total. PDFs only, checked by reading the file rather than trusting its name.
- If a subscription ends
- Nothing is deleted. What you have uploaded stays and stays readable; what changes is that you cannot add more until you are back under the free limit. The same is true of your aerodromes and everything you have written.
If something should not be here
MetarLab stores files its users upload, which makes it a host. If you believe a file stored here infringes your rights, write to the contact address on the legal notice with enough to identify it — what the work is, why you hold the rights, and how to reach you.
Files here are private to one account and are never published, so there is nothing to search for from outside; a report will normally need to say which account or which material. Anything found to be infringing is removed and the account holder is told why.
What MetarLab is not
It is not an official source and must not be used as one. It is not an approved briefing service and it is not a flight-planning system. Every number it shows comes from the authority that published it, and the original stays on screen beside the reading — because the decision to fly is made against the authority's own publication, not against this app. If MetarLab and the authority disagree, the authority is right.
A chart you uploaded yourself is further still from official: nobody checked it, and nothing keeps it in step with the AIRAC cycle. It is a copy of a document, kept where you can reach it.
The study material is written to help somebody prepare for the EASA PPL theory examinations. It is not the syllabus, it is not endorsed by any authority or school, and passing a quiz here is evidence of nothing.
Using it fairly
- Age
- You must be at least fourteen, which is the age Spanish law sets for consenting to a service like this on your own account.
- Do not break it
- No scraping, no automated hammering, no attempt to reach another account's data. The weather sources are free services that MetarLab is a guest of, and abuse here costs them, not only it.
- It can stop
- This is a personal project offered as it is, with no promise of uptime and no warranty beyond what the law gives you and does not let anybody take away. It may change or end. If it ends, anything paid for and not delivered is refunded, and your data is still yours: the app hands you a copy of everything from Settings → Your data.
- An account can be closed
- An account used to attack the service or to store material somebody has a right to have removed can be suspended. If that happens you are told why, you keep the right to a copy of your data, and anything paid for and not used is refunded.
Privacy
What is held about you, why, who else sees it and how to take it back is set out in full on the privacy policy.
If these terms change
They will, because the app does. A change that affects what you are paying for is told to you by email before it takes effect, and you can cancel rather than accept it. A change that only corrects or clarifies is made on this page.
Law and jurisdiction
Spanish law applies. Nothing here takes away the rights you have as a consumer, which include being able to bring a matter before the courts where you live.
